MP4 or GIF — which should I pick?

MP4 is dramatically smaller and sharper, and every modern app plays it. Choose GIF only when you need a literal image file — for example, pasting into documents or platforms that only accept images.

Why is the GIF file bigger than the MP4?

GIF is a 1989-era format limited to 256 colors with no real compression — a 2 MB MP4 can easily become a 10 MB GIF. That’s the format, not the tool.

Is there a length limit for GIF conversion?

Conversions are capped at 30 seconds to keep files sane — X GIFs are almost always shorter than that anyway.

Do stickers and animated emoji work?

Only media attached to posts as video/GIF can be downloaded. Inline stickers are part of X’s interface, not post media.
